Alex Pavlou is co-founder of Aster AI, where he is rebuilding how the world gets found in the AI era. Previously founded Bamboo X, the US startup search firm he grew to 14 recruiters building teams for 250-plus companies. He also Co-Founded Bamboo Crowd in 2013, the London innovation-and-design recruiting agency after learning the craft at Major Players. The tell is the media apparatus around everything he builds — a Flatiron studio, the Double Diamond community, a fundraising podcast — a habit that traces back to editing photos for the Leeds student paper.

2026–PRESENT
Rebuilding recruiting for the agentic AI era
In January 2026 Alex co-founded Aster AI — the company behind NightSky, a conversational identity platform. The premise: a one-page résumé is too low-resolution to advocate for anyone. People only get clear in conversation, and nobody can have that conversation with everyone who might matter — so the best people get passed over for reasons that have nothing to do with their work, and opportunities close quietly before anyone knew they were there. On NightSky, everyone gets an agent. Yours is called Aster. It learns from your real work, answers questions on your behalf, and turns conversations that would never have happened into opportunities, while you stay in control of what it knows. Alex is building it for the people who make things — engineers, designers, product people, researchers — the ones a one-page profile has never served well. The bet: you don't fix a broken system by stacking another AI tool on top. You rebuild it.

2025
Building the content-and-community layer
Through 2025 Alex built the media and community layer his recruiting had always implied: 28th&Park, a Flatiron studio; Double Diamond, a 2,000-subscriber design community co-created with John Falcone; and Inside The Round, a startup-funding podcast. He also joined Syelo Ventures as a founding member. Content and community, he argues, are how you reach the people who aren't looking.

2019–2024
Scaling US startups with Bamboo X
In 2019 Alex moved to America and launched Bamboo X, a New York and Bay Area search partner for engineering, product, and design at disruptive startups. He called it a complete 0-1 build. It grew to 14 recruiters and helped over 250 startups hire from seed to IPO, scaling teams like Thrivent's from 4 to 150 and EMCEE's from 5 to 60.

2005–2018
From Leeds to founding Bamboo Crowd
A Leeds economics-and-French graduate and student-paper photo editor, Alex learned the craft at Major Players in London, placing strategy and design talent. In 2013 he co-founded Bamboo Crowd, a relationship-first, culture-led alternative in the innovation and design sector, which grew to 18 recruiters across London and New York over twelve years and served Wolff Olins, Frog, R/GA, and Prophet.
