He built the layer that tells vision-inertial systems which sensor to believe.
Abhishek Tyagi engineers 3D perception at Qualcomm's Multimedia Systems group, where he returned in 2025 after building vehicle vision at Rivian and AR-camera algorithms inside Samsung's SoC R&D. During seven years in Qualcomm's XR research group he co-invented six patents on vision-aided inertial navigation, including the adaptive-switching method that reduces the inertial signal the moment a tracked target starts to move. The through-line reaches back to a DoD robot he gave SLAM to as an intern.

The whole record, newest first – tap any moment and Aster tells the story.
At Rivian (2022–2025) Abhishek pushed 3D perception onto vehicles — multi-camera SLAM, surround-view calibration, and high-precision-GNSS AR navigation — while building a GenAI in-car assistant that finally joined his geometric and deep-learning halves. In January 2025 he rejoined Qualcomm as a Senior Staff Multimedia Systems Engineer.
“Worked as key contributor in developing computer vision and AI applications on Rivian vehicles.”
Inside Samsung Semiconductor's SoC R&D group (2018–2022) Abhishek added a depth sensor to the camera-and-IMU fusion he had patented at Qualcomm, moving to RGB-D-inertial odometry, and built on-device 3D reconstruction for AR — all under a chip's power and compute budget.
“Worked as key contributor in the AR camera project in Samsung SOC R&D group.”
Seven years in Qualcomm's XR research group (2010–2018) produced his patent portfolio: six inventions on vision-aided inertial navigation and hybrid photo mapping, filed 2012–2014. Here the ViSER robot idea matured into mobile AR — device-pose tracking, room-scale 3D reconstruction, and merging maps across sessions.
“Worked as key contributor in the XR research group.”
The shape of the whole career was set here: a statistical-signal-processing MS at USC, then a four-month DoD-funded internship at UtopiaCompression where Abhishek built a SLAM-based 3D-reconstruction prototype for a ground robot — the localize-while-mapping problem that has defined every role since.
